Unusual venues: Wellington Arch

London is scattered with fabulously quirky wedding venues from grand, historic buildings to unexpected, hidden treasures. And if chosen wisely these locations can really pack a welcome punch to your big day… with very little effort on your behalf (my kind of wedding planning!).

So following on from my article on Harrow School, we travel into the heart of the city to explore a site that you probably never imaged could be a wedding venue.

What is it called? Wellington Arch

Where is it? On the north-west side of Hyde Park, just a couple of minutes away from Hyde Park Corner station. You’d struggle . . . → Read More: Unusual venues: Wellington Arch

The up and downs of wedding hair

I am now less than five months away from the wedding, and have suddenly realised that apart from buying the dress and hair comb, I have given really very little thought to how I want to look on the day. Nice would be a good start, and maybe even pretty… but that’s not really a good description to give to a hair and make-up artist is it?!

I have been researching lots of looks so that know vaguely what I am talking about when I eventually pick some poor soul to beautify me on my big day.

I have been trying to find . . . → Read More: The up and downs of wedding hair

Unusual venues: Harrow School

Finding the right venue was a massive thing for me when I first started my wedding planning, and it was also the most daunting. I realised that the venue sets the tone for the day, and it is, of course, one of the biggest financial commitments you will make when you get hitched. I neither had a tone or theme in mind for my wedding and I had a pretty small budget… so I initially panicked, then  I think I probably cried, and then spent a lot of time researching venues both in London and in the neighbouring counties.

Through my search . . . → Read More: Unusual venues: Harrow School

Diamonds (or all jewels really) are a girls best friend

Ladies if, like me, you are currently on the look out for bridal jewellery I would recommend you have a sneaky peak at American website Tejani. I should be in bed right now, but instead the gorgeous sparkles of the earrings, necklaces, brooches, bracelets etc etc etc have got me so excited that I just have to write a little note for you about it.

The brand is the brainchild of Urvi Prunier, a New York City designer and business woman, who called it after her maiden name Tejani which means brightness or sparkle in Hindi.

The jewellery is an eclectic mix of classic, statement, . . . → Read More: Diamonds (or all jewels really) are a girls best friend

3 months of planning… in 5 points!

Happy New Year all! I can’t believe it’s been so long since I last wrote – I had a number of plans for blogs, and then life and wedding planning sort of took over… and now here I am, six months away from the wedding. My goodness, I feel a little faint!

Here’s a round-up of what’s been happening, and what I have discovered along the way.

1. The Dress: I ordered it at the end of September, and it is a beautiful, light gold Maggie Sottero number. It is not something I would have picked for myself initially, as I had imagined . . . → Read More: 3 months of planning… in 5 points!

The Big Question: How can I look fab in photos?

Apart from a fortunate few, most women sadly shriek when they see pictures of themselves. It’s either “AH, look at the size of my arms”, “I hate my nose – that’s definitely not my good side”, or simply “Delete that now, or I will throw your camera in the sea” [one of my personal favourites].

While it doesn’t usually matter, the last thing you want to do is look back at your wedding snaps and howl with discontent. Thankfully, well seasoned and talented wedding photographers will be able to put you at ease and bring out your best side, so that you . . . → Read More: The Big Question: How can I look fab in photos?

The Big Question: What’s the best red lipstick to suit Asian complexion?

PART 1

It would be a miracle if you hadn’t noticed this season’s hot makeup trend, which is being sported by girls around Shoreditch as much as it is by the Hollywood Glitterati. What am I talking about? Red lipstick of course.

Blondes, brunettes, black and white – whatever their colouring, trendy girls are all rocking the red look.

I want to ditch my neutral shades, at least for a while, and get in on the action too (!). But have never, ever been able to find a shade of red that suited my Asian / Pakistani complexion . . . → Read More: The Big Question: What’s the best red lipstick to suit Asian complexion?

Shoes for brides with petite feet!

Anyone with tiny toes like me knows how hard it is to find grown-up, fashionable, well-fitting shoes… and how frustrating, and sometimes a little embarrassing, it is to be relegated to the children’s department of a shoe shop (particularly when you are a shoe lover).

BUT, the gods of shoe heaven have finally answered my prayers, and I am about to burst with excitement as I share this with you. I have just discovered (thanks to a very clever colleague, a veritable angel Gabriel) a lovely little website full of lovely little shoes dedicated to petite ladies with petite feet!

Kick off those . . . → Read More: Shoes for brides with petite feet!

Budget wedding video: shoot it yourself but get it edited by a pro

I’d love to have a wedding video as well as photographs, but I’m not sure I can afford a professional videographer…

Hiring a videographer can be expensive, and if you are on a tight budget it might be out of your reach. You could always get a friend to film your wedding day, but you run the risk of ending up with dodgy shots and ten minutes worth of footage featuring people’s shoes or the church floor, when the camera has been left on by mistake.

But I’ve come across a way that budget-savvy couples can (hopefully!) get a fun, quality wedding video . . . → Read More: Budget wedding video: shoot it yourself but get it edited by a pro

Vintage elegance for budget-conscious brides… from Topshop!

I love this beaded maxi-dress from Topshop’s new collection, and I think it could make an elegant, vintage inspired wedding dress – perfect for a more informal soiree. At just £225, the Snow Queen Maxi Dress is a steal for brides on a budget, and the loose column style should hide a multiple of sins! It’s probably not the best option for petite ladies like me, but if you are not vertically challenged then I’d suggest you check this out.
